As someone who has spent countless weekends exploring the stunning landscapes of my home country, Costa Rica, I thought I had seen it all—until I discovered Playa Fantasía. This hidden beach paradise feels like something out of a dream, tucked away in the Ara Macaw Wildlife Refuge, accessible only by boat, and surrounded by untouched natural beauty.
Stepping off the boat, I found myself in a surreal place: white sand, turquoise waters, and the tranquil sounds of the jungle all around. But what truly makes Playa Fantasía special is its seclusion and the feeling of being in your own private corner of paradise. It’s not just a beach—it’s an experience wrapped in tranquility and natural wonder.
A Natural Sanctuary Like No Other
What struck me most was the vibrancy of this place. The wildlife is abundant and colorful—scarlet macaws, monkeys, sloths, and exotic trees and flowers I had never seen before. Playa Fantasía lies within a transitional forest, where dry and humid ecosystems meet, creating an incredible variety of species. Everywhere I looked, nature was thriving.
Fantasy Beach isn’t just beautiful—it’s protected. Located within the Ara Macaw Wildlife Refuge, this beach is part of an important conservation effort. The entire area is carefully maintained, and it shows. It’s one of the cleanest beaches in Costa Rica I’ve ever visited.
The nearby volcanic reefs are home to dozens of species of fish, algae, and marine life, making the waters just as vibrant as the jungle. I even took some time to snorkel and was amazed by the ocean’s vitality. Everything—from the sand to the trees to the water—felt untouched, pure, and deeply respected.
A Unique and Private Getaway
What I loved most about my trip was the exclusivity and peace of the experience. There were no crowds, no vendors, no noise—just a place I had never been before. Just me, nature, and a few other travelers who seemed as in awe as I was. Playa Fantasía is the perfect spot for a romantic getaway, a family adventure, or even a destination wedding. It’s a rare find in today’s busy world.
If you’re ever near Jacó Beach or Hermosa Beach, trust me: it’s worth the 45-minute boat ride across the Gulf of Nicoya. You won’t just be visiting a beach—you’ll be stepping into one of Costa Rica’s most beautiful natural treasures.
